Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat- The Saudi Shura Council (Consultative Council) has authorized the Minister of Interior to delegate officials in order to grant the Saudi nationality to foreign women married to Saudi men, and to the foreign widows of Saudi men. Secretary-General of the Shura Council, Dr. Saleh Bin Abdullah Al-Malik, said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency during its 43rd session held in Riyadh last Sunday that the draft was presented by Dr. Bakr Bin Hamza Bin Bakr Khushaim, President of the Security Committee, and it included the observations and opinions of the council members. The Shura Council vetoed the Security Committee’s addition which stated that, “the Minister of Interior has the authority to revoke the Saudi nationality (from foreign wives and widows) if the marital relationship is terminated for any reason and if the woman reclaims her original nationality or another one”.
