GAZA CITY (AFP) – Two Palestinian children aged two and 13 and a woman were killed on Saturday in an explosion of unknown origin affecting two houses in the southern Gaza Strip, witnesses and a medical source said.

Six other people, including two children aged four and three, were injured in the blast that partly destroyed one home and damaged several neighbouring houses.

The medical source named the victims as two-year-old Bara Tayssir al- Sumayri, her brother Najah, 13, and 20-year-old Samah Nawaf abu Thabit.

After the explosion in the Qarara area east of Khan Yunis the Israeli military said it knew of no operation by its forces there at the time.

Several Palestinians have been killed in recent years by the premature detonation of bombs or home-made rockets being prepared by militants in their own homes.
