Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat- The Saudi Embassy in Lebanon has started to evacuate its nationals from Lebanese territories where an unprecedented security tension prevailed on the ground during the past two days and Saudi Ambassador in Beirut Dr. Abdulaziz Khujah described the situations there as “bad.”
The ambassador told Asharq Al-Awsat in a telephone interview that the embassy had evacuated more than 70 Saudis as of yesterday and secured their arrival in Syrian territories overland. He said “there is no other solution” and stressed that his embassy would continue to evacuate more nationals during the next days and said: “We will evacuate today more Saudis who are in Lebanese territories. We sent short messages (SMS) to the Saudi citizens’ cell phones when the tensions erupted asking them to leave the Lebanese territories in coordination with the embassy in Beirut.”
According to Khujah, the Saudi Embassy in Syria “will facilitate all the procedures that ensure our citizens’ arrival in the homeland.” In his reply to the extent of his contacts with the Iranian ambassador in Lebanon, he said “the last contact I had with the Iranian ambassador was a short time ago. We are doing all we can to calm the situations here.”
