KUWAIT CITY (AP) – Kuwait’s state news agency is reporting that several US soldiers passing through the country have been infected with swine flu.

The news agency quotes a senior health official as saying the soldiers were treated on a U.S. base and some have left the country. The official, Ibrahim Abdul-Hadi, did not say how many soldiers were infected or where they were traveling from.

The U.S. Embassy said cases have “tentatively” been confirmed without adding details and that the soldiers did not come into contact with the Kuwaiti population.

The oil-rich country is an ally of Washington and a logistics base for U.S. personnel serving in Iraq. The health official said in Saturday’s report that no other swine flu cases have been detected in Kuwait.
