London, Asharq Al-Awsat- Dr Adnan Al-Dulaymi, head of the Iraqi Al-Tawafuq Front (Jabhat al-Tawafuq al-Iraqi) in the Iraqi Parliament, has given his blessings to the convocation of the Mecca conference, and described the proposed Mecca Document as “important.”

Al-Dulaymi told Asharq Al-Awsat over the telephone from Baghdad yesterday that “the Mecca Document will have a remarkable impact on all Iraqis, and we hope that it will be translated into action on the ground.” He added: “Translating this document into action on a broad scale will alleviate the existing crisis in the country, and will give Iraqis a glimmer of hope, because it seeks to prevent the bloodshed and thwart sectarian struggle.”

The Iraqi deputy added: “The Mecca Document has a very high, noble, and lofty moral value, because it represents the inclinations of those religious leaders who have a say among the elite sons of the Iraqi people, including Sunnis, Shiites, and all Iraqi sects and nationalisms.”

The head of the Iraqi Al-Tawafuq parliamentary bloc stressed that “this document will make a difference in terms of alleviating the crisis and paving the way for reconciliation and conciliation.” He added that “this document will have a special impact on politicians, political party leaders, and religious and tribal authorities, thus urging us to use it as a reconciliation plan.” He emphasized that “we will abide by all the decisions stipulated in the Mecca Document that serve Iraq and the Iraqis, and that can help unite the sons of this country and people, who are suffering from bloodshed, displacement, attacks against places of worship, and the burning of Sunni and Shiite mosques and churches.” He added: “We support and give our blessing to this document, and we will abide by all its decisions for the sake of Iraq and its interests, and for the sake of living in a peaceful, loving, and brotherly atmosphere.”
