Cairo, Asharq Al-Awsat- Arab League [AL] Secretary General Amr Musa has officially requested Luis-Moreno Ocampo, the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor, to launch an investigation of the events of the war on Gaza.

Ambassador Muhammad Subayh, the Al’s assistant secretary-general for Palestine affairs, said “the report of the UN fact-finding commission on the recent Israeli war on the Gaza Strip strengthens the AL’s stand of demanding the trial of the Israeli war criminals.” He added in a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat that the UN commission’s 600-page report written by South African Judge Richard Goldstone accused Israel openly of committing war crimes, refuted all its allegations, and demonstrated its apparent racism in dealing with the Palestinian people.

He pointed out that this report is not the first to condemn Israel and confirms its commitment of war crimes in Gaza as many commissions reached the same conclusion as the Goldstone one and added that the Arab fact-finding commission which the AL sent to the Strip reached the same conclusion as the UN one. He commented that “Israel cannot accuse this report of anti-Semitism because its author is a Jew who suffered from racial discrimination” and said “Israel’s war against the Palestinian people in Gaza is not over yet as the latter are still under the blockade.”
