Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat – the number of the licensed commercial firms in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia up to the end of 1424 AH amounted to about 584,000, while the number of the operating companies totaled 13, 539 with an invested capital of more than SR 203 billion by the end of 2004.

The ministry of commerce has been undertaking the supervision of the chambers of commerce and industry and councils of the Saudi chambers.

Meanwhile, the ministry has been playing crucial role in activating the role of the private sector and enabling it to positively contribute to the process of economic development and diversification of the sources of income.
