Cairo- A month ago, the late Egyptian actor Mahmoud Abdul Aziz was hospitalized after suffering from a deteriorating health condition. The lack of information concerning his health raised many questions.

Medical sources at the hospital where he was treated said that the famous actor was suffering from cancer, a news which was always denied by Abdul Aziz’s son in his statements before his death.

Actor Mohammad Chahine, who worked with Abdul Aziz in his latest work in Ramadan “Ras al-Ghoul” series, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the late star travelled to France after the work’s conclusion for treatment. Chahine considered the death of Abdul Aziz a major loss for the Egyptian cinema, and noted that during the series shooting, the “Magician” was always active and friendly, and never seemed sick.

Mohammad, Abdul Aziz’s son, has ended the ongoing debate on the health state of his father and revealed that he was suffering from severe anemia, which destroyed his immune system and prevented him from seeing people based on the doctors’ orders.

Mahmoud Abdul Aziz fans never expected his death despite concerns that dominated the sector on his health; however, it seems that the actor’s condition was critical and reached dangerous stages. A source close to the actor has revealed that before his death, the magician suffered from a severe bleeding in his gum in addition to some major problems in the lungs.

This was not the first health deterioration for Abdul Aziz; in 1997, he underwent a surgery to remove a water cyst from his stomach; in 2006, he also suffered from a severe respiratory infection and problems in the lungs, which persisted until his death and caused his health’s deterioration recently. Rumor has it he was suffering from lung cancer.

“The Magician” was the title of Mahmoud Abdul Aziz after a 47-year acting journey … He starred in “Raafat al-Haggan”, “Al-A’ar” and dozens of cinema and TV works.

Abdul Aziz was an exceptional case in the history of Arab art. He was among the few artists who had the will of decision. He didn’t surrender to the market’s rules and always knew how to excel in his field.

He also knew that revolution was the key to success and that honesty was his way to peoples’ hearts.

Social media outlets had a remarkable share in Mahmoud Abdul Aziz’s mourning. People and stars from across the Arab world have expressed their sadness for losing such a distinguished figure.
