Beirut-The 7th edition of the Ibero-American Film Festival kicks off in Beirut on Friday. The event that is organized by the Spanish embassy in Lebanon in cooperation with the Cervantes Cultural Institute and other embassies like those of Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Mexico, Chili, and Venezuela, will last till November 6.

It will include 11 Spanish and Portuguese-speaking movies in partnership with The Lebanese Metropolis Association.

During the festival, a number of movies will be shown for the first time in the Middle East. Nesrine Wehbe, media official in Metropolis, said that this festival attracts a remarkable category of Lebanese because it offers them an exceptional chance to watch this type of movies.

Talking to Asharq Al-Awsat, Wehbe added that this festival has been considered an annual tradition for the Spanish community in Lebanon, made up of around 500 members. It also attracts other Latin communities that attend to watch movies produced in their motherlands.

This year’s edition of the festival includes movies from Paraguay, El Salvador, Mexico and Portugal and many other Latin countries. Films will be shown at the Cinemas of Metropolis Empire Sofil in Ashrafyeh, Beirut.

During 2016, the Lebanese capital has witnessed a flow of film festivals organized in cooperation with foreign embassies and their cultural centers.

Beirut is also expected to host more festivals in November including the Beirut Art Film Festival (8-13 November) and the Spanish Film Fest (14-20 November) organized in cooperation with the Cervantes Center in Lebanon.
