The Russian government announced details of a sweeping ban on food imports from the European Union, United States, Norway, Canada and Australia, in retaliation for sanctions over the pro-Russian separatist uprising in eastern Ukraine. Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev said the ban – which goes into effect 07 August and will last a year – includes meat, fish, poultry, milk products, vegetables and fruits, and would bolster Russian domestic agriculture. President Vladimir Putin had already ordered the agricultural import bans on these countries. EPA/YURI KOCHETKOV
