Jeddah-The General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will host a joint meeting to brainstorm ideas between the OIC and the United Nations at its headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The meeting which is planned to be held from 10 to 11 May 2017 will review opportunities for collaboration between the UN and the OIC on political and security situations in the Middle East.

It would also consider other issues like peace, security and conflict resolution mechanisms in the OIC, OIC-UN partnership in peace process, promotion of dialogue, mediation and peacekeeping efforts.

Other items on the agenda include combating violent extremism, radicalization, terrorism, migration, and refugee issues.

OIC’s Director General for Political Affairs Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhiet said the brainstorming session is been held under the existing OIC-UN bilateral cooperation and joint action on mutual issues.

The two international organizations hold coordinating meetings every two years to boost and strengthen cooperation between the organization’s institutions and the UN concerned agencies.

The secretary generals of the two organizations also hold direct meetings and exchange phone calls frequently.
