RABAT – Spain’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that police arrested a Moroccan man in Valencia suspected of recruiting militants for ISIS and promoting the militant group on social media.

The man is allegedly responsible for the creation of a broad nexus of social networking profiles, with the ultimate goal to recruit, radicalize and indoctrinate potential followers all based on ISIS propaganda.

In a statement, the Ministry said that the man had been communicating with a large number of ISIS militants, some of them well-known individuals operating in conflict zones in Syria and Iraq.

The statement said that the man had expressed his desire to join ISIS, adding that the arrest was made under the supervision of Spain’s investigative judge, in coordination with the public prosecutor at the Spanish National Court.

Meanwhile, Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister José Manuel García Margallo hailed the cooperation ties existing between security services of Morocco, Spain and France, saying this triangular cooperation was currently the best-ever and the closest in history.

Speaking to reporters following a presentation on the “Spanish Trademark”, the top Spanish diplomat said that Spain cooperated in the field of counter-terrorism with its neighboring countries, noting that his country was part of the international coalition against Islamic extremists.

Margallo added that around 300 Spanish troops were currently providing training to members of the Iraqi Security Forces to fight the terror group ISIS.

The Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister called for taking ISIS threat seriously, saying that the terrorist organization was attempting to carry out attacks in Europe as a means to promote its ideology and beliefs in the Old Continent.
