London- Iranian MP Hussein Ali Haji Degana revealed that at least 12 top officials holding dual citizenship have been arrested in Iran over the last two years.
Degana said that those detained have infiltrated into government and procured senior managerial and decision-making posts.
The spy officials, according to Degana, have been arrested and put up on trial.
The MP demanded that the Isfahan judiciary delivers its rulings with transparency, and that the officials’ identity also be made public. Some of the officials were arrested on the premise of holding dual citizenship solely.
Post announcing the nuclear deal, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei made a loud statement on the political infrastructure being compromised with western infiltration, as alleged moles having accessed decision-making posts. More so, ‘infiltration’ has become a frequent term dodged throughout fundamentalist speeches, and among anti-deal politicians.
The national parliament on Tuesday officially announced the monitoring and chase down of political and government officials holding either American dual-citizenship or the green card.
The Iranian MP says that inflicted risk is not exclusive to officials who happen to be dual-citizens, but also to private sector researchers who have been backed and sponsored by foreign countries. The researchers, according to Degana, have convinced local officials with West-inspired agendas for Iran.
Despite many high-ranking officials such as minister of intelligence Mahmoud Alavi denying the presence of dual-citizens among Iran’s decision-making body- Abdol-Rasool Dorri Esfahani, one of the nuclear deal negotiators, was arrested based on the claims of owning dual citizenship with his family currently residing in Canada.
Esfahani was arrested when accompanying Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif under suspicions of conspiring and compromising national security.
Many other officials rushed to deny the claims against Esfahani, saying that they are false and not fact-based. Qassim Brhamy defended Esfahani, saying he was taken under false allegations, despite other MPs confirming negotiator’s arrest being based on hard evidence.
