Munich- On Friday, a state of alert was provoked across the city, in fear of a terror attack. Two train stations were evacuated in dismay, after anticipating terrorists carrying out attacks on New Year’s Eve. Moreover German police continues to search for 8 Iraqis suspected to have intended to perpetrate suicide attacks in the city.

Bavarian Munich police Chief Hubertus Andrae said in a Friday press conference, “we have several policemen deployed and this will continue so long as the terrorist threat remains high”, he also pointed out that 8 terrorists intended on committing suicide attacks in Munich in the name of ISIS in four groups, according to security sources.

Bavarian Broadcasting, public-service radio and television broadcaster, reported that Germany had received warnings from both US and French intelligence agencies earlier in the day. According to the intelligence, seven Iraqis living in Munich were named as the potential attackers, and they were planning to enter the stations in pairs and blow themselves up simultaneously.

Police Chief Andrae stood up for the measures taken by the police to stop the attacks, saying that the report of the attacks was true and cannot be ignored. German police has received the information from a fellow country’s intelligence, the chief later clarified.

Thomas de Maizière, German Federal Minister of the Interior, also defended all the measures taken on Friday by the police, and praised cooperation between security authorities in the Bavarian state and intelligence warning reports.

Investigations are being carried out persistently, however no arrests have been made so far. The police department assured that are sparing no effort in tracking down the suspects linked to these threats.
Social media also had its fair share of the police campaign, as the police posted Thursday to Facebook, stating “in response to certified reports, Munich’s police department is concerned about the existence of a terrorist attack in the city. According to available info, that we consider absolute, there are harbored intentions of perpetrating an attack tonight”.
