According to reports the Nigerian army supported by local civilian defense forces repelled an attack on the capital of Borno State by the militant group Boko Haram (Western Education is forbidden) though the group, which has waged a full scale insurgency since 2009 claiming the lives of more than 11’000 individuals, remains in control of large swathes of the state, including the recently captured town of Monguno some 125 kilometers from Maiduguri, prompting fears of a fresh assault.
