The British Prime Minister David Cameron has unequivocally rejected Turkey’s request to join the European Union. In an interview with Sky News on Thursday evening, the British Prime Minister David Cameron said there was “no prospect of Turkey joining the EU in decades.”

Cameron added that regardless of this, “The EU should cooperate with the government in Ankara to deal with the refugee issue.”

On the other hand, Cameron defended his position on Britain staying in the EU by saying that “in the event that the British public votes to exit the EU, our economy will suffer”. He indicated that the value of the pound will fall, prices will rise and lots of jobs will be lost. He also stressed that “we will be a poor country”.

The Prime Minister continued by saying “Stay in for the trade, jobs and livelihoods”… “Let’s be frank about this thing we are a member of. This thing, the single market, enables us to drive trade deals that are good for British business. Leaving the single market would be an act of economic self-harm for Britain.”
