The man accused of stabbing two people at Leytonstone station in London appeared in court yesterday after he was charged by anti-terrorism officers with attempted murder. 48 hours after the attack, police continued to investigate whether Muhyadin Mire, 29, acted alone.

Mire, a resident of East London, did not speak in Westminster Magistrate’s Court yesterday except to confirm his name, age and address. He wore a gray t-shirt and gray tracksuit bottoms in court.

Mire will appear at the Old Bailey (the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales) on Friday. The prosecution also announced that it had found ISIS images and photographs of the recent attacks in Paris on Mire’s personal mobile phone. Investigators are trying to determine the motives which led the accused to stab two people in the neck, one of whom sustained serious injuries on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister David Cameron commended the people who tried to resist Mire and also expressed his admiration for the person nearby who shouted “You ain’t no Mulsim, bruv” (London slang for “You are not a Muslim”) in horror at Mire’s actions.

In response to the attack, the British Transport Police (BTP) has announced that more plain clothes police will be deployed to tube and rail stations across London “just as there will be a larger number of armed police and sniffer dogs in prominent places”.
