Washington – Former US President Bill Clinton is working with writer James Patterson on a novel called “The President is Missing,” which will be published next year, according to Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group and Hachette Book Group.
Reuters reported the publishers’ statement issued on Monday which said the book will be published in June 2018.
The statement described the book as: “a unique amalgam of intrigue, suspense and behind-the-scenes global drama from the highest corridors of power.”
Speaking about Patterson, Clinton said he had been a fan of the suspense author for years and has enjoyed working with him.
“Working on a book about a sitting president, drawing on what I know about the job, life in the White House, and the way Washington works has been a lot of fun,” Clinton said in a statement.
Patterson, known for his novels featuring the psychologist Alex Cross and for the “Women’s Murder Club” series, said working with Clinton was the highlight of his career and having access to his first-hand experience has uniquely informed the writing of this novel.
“I’m a story-teller, and President Clinton’s insight has allowed us to tell a really interesting one,” Patterson added in a statement.
“It’s a rare combination,” he stated adding, “readers will be drawn to the suspense, of course, but they’ll also be given an inside look into what it’s like to be president.”
This isn’t the first time that Clinton will earn accolades as an author. National Public Radio (NPR) noted that the former president had previously released a best-selling post-presidential memoir “My Life” which sold more than a million copies.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed and there were no further details of what the book will be about, but according to The New York Times, several chapters of the novel have already been written.
On a different note, a novel based on the life of Hillary, Clinton’s wife, is being written by author Curtis Sittenfeld. The novel will imagine how the former secretary of state’s life would have panned out if she had not married Bill Clinton.
According to publisher Random House, the novel is told from the point of view of Hillary Rodham, in which she turns down marriage proposals from Bill Clinton and how her life spins out from there.
