RIYADH (Asharq Al-Awsat and Agencies) – Prince Mohammed Bin Naif Bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Interior Minister, suffered light injuries after a man blew himself up with explosives as the prince greeted well-wishers for the holy month of Ramadan.
The Saudi Royal Court issued the following statement:
At 11:30 PM Thursday, August 27, while Prince Mohammed Bin Naif Bin Abdulaziz, the assistant Minister of Interior for Security Affairs, was receiving a group of people who came to greet and congratulate him on the Holy Month of Ramadan, a wanted terrorist, who had previously requested to turn himself in before the prince and while being searched, blew himself up by detonating a bomb attached to his body. Prince Mohammed suffered minor injuries. No one else was hurt.
Prince Mohammed left hospital shortly after running necessary examinations. At the hospital and shortly after the incident, he was visited by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud who came to enquire about his health.
Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General also contacted Prince Mohammed to enquire about his health following the incident. The Crown Prince hailed efforts made by Prince Mohammed, who expressed his happiness and appreciation for the Crown Prince’s call.
