Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat—Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz met with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Saturday, to discuss boosting bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries.

During the one-day visit Maduro enquired as to the health of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, wishing him a speedy recovery. He was thanked by both Deputy Prince Muqrin Bin Abdulaziz and Prince Miteb Bin Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz for his concern.

Venezuela is one of the founding members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Maduro is currently making a tour of the Middle East, visiting fellow OPEC members. He arrived in Riyadh following a visit to Iran, and is scheduled to arrive in fellow OPEC member Algeria on Monday.

Also attending the meeting were Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin Bin Abdulaziz, who is also the Kingdom’s Deputy Prime Minister; Prince Khalid Bin Bandar Bin Abdulaziz, head of the Saudi intelligence service; and Prince Miteb Bin Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, Minister of the National Guard.

Maduro was accompanied on the trip by first lady Cilia Flores, Foreign Minister Delcy Rodríguez, Oil Minister Asdrúbal Chávez, Finance Minister Rodolfo Marco Torres, Defense Minister Gen. Vladimir Padrino López, as well as Venezuela’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Following the visit, Maduro and the Venezuelan delegation were seen off by Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin before departing the Kingdom for Algiers.
