GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) – Vandals set off explosives in the library of Gaza’s YMCA, damaging books and furniture, the director said Friday.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, and Hamas police declined comment. Christian institutions have been targeted several times since the Islamic militant Hamas won parliament elections in 2006, and in October a Christian activist was killed.

Christians are a tiny minority of about 3,000 among Gaza’s 1.4 million people. YMCA director Issa Saba said the attack occurred in the night from Thursday to Friday. He said the library contained some 10,000 non-religious books.
