JERUSALEM, (Reuters) – The United States has suspended new projects in the Palestinian territories after Hamas’s election victory, but expects some U.S. aid to flow in future regardless of the militant group’s government role, a top U.S. official said.

Jacob Walles, the U.S. consul general in Jerusalem, told Reuters in an interview that the United States was concerned that a Hamas-led government would turn to Iran for financial support. But he said Washington doubted Tehran had the financial resources and know-how to fund a Hamas-led Palestinian Authority without international support.
