Riyadh- US Ambassador to Yemen Matthew Tueller has stated that Washington doesn’t recognize any Yemeni political entity that doesn’t acknowledge the internationally backed legit government. He added that the US will continue its support to Yemen and the legit government until security, stability and peace prevail.

The ambassador’s statement was made on Thursday when he handed out Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Yemen Abdulmalik al-Mekhlafi a memorandum from the US government on the required procedures to facilitate cooperation between the two states on revising the travel ban on Yemeni passport holders.

Tueller highlighted importance of coordination with the Yemeni government to facilitate the travel of Yemenis to the US, especially businessmen, students and relatives of US citizens of Yemeni origins. He noted that his country is keen to assist Yemenis and bolster bilateral ties and cooperation in this field.

The meeting showcased efforts of UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and his proposals that were welcomed by the Yemeni government regarding Hodeidah port, completing salaries disbursement for civil servants and importing resources, which are still being used by insurgents to fund war and corruption.

Moving to the new UN plan, Yemeni Minister of Information Moamer al-Aryani told Asharq Al-Awsat that the Yemeni government didn’t receive yet the plan revealed by the UN envoy, noting that it initially shows no rejection to any solution that would end the Yemeni crisis.

Concluding his visit to Cairo, Ould Cheikh issued a statement saying that what has been rumored about a new proposal is inaccurate since the new initiative is only the first part of a plan-of-work that aims at reaching a peaceful and comprehensive solution that would end war and enhance humanitarian and economic conditions.
