Gaza- United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov arrived Tuesday morning in the Gaza Strip.

Mladenov, accompanied by six delegates, arrived in Gaza via the Israel-controlled Beit Hanun (Erez) border-crossing.

He met with UN officials, ministers from the government of national consensus and a group of social and human rights figures to be briefed with the latest political and field developments in the strip, especially those regarding reconstruction file.

Mladenov told officials responsible for reconstruction projects that talks are being held with Israeli authorities to increase the amount of construction materials entering the strip and give the approval to reconstruct more houses for Palestinians affected by war.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah met last week with Mladenov and discussed means of bilateral coordination and cooperation.

It was also agreed during the meeting to harmonize the framework of the United Nations development assistance work with the agenda of the Palestinian national policies.

At a conference launching the NPA last Wednesday, Mladenov hailed the plan as “smart governance” which was “finalizing an ambitious policy agenda for Palestine that articulates a strong, clear vision for the Palestinian people.”

“This is a step in the right direction that tangibly demonstrates the Palestinian commitment to advancing the two-state solution,” Mladenov added.

Both parties also tackled latest economic and political developments in addition to the violations carried out by Israelis, especially the escalation of settlement, land confiscation and arrests against Palestinian civilians by the Israeli army on daily basis.
