Aden- Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O’Brien started a visit on Saturday to Yemen to be briefed on humanitarian situation.

O’Brien met with Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi as they discussed ways to promote UN involvement in humanitarian relief affairs across the country.

O’Brien said that the UN is preparing a campaign to assist Yemen, pointing out that it will be carried out on April 25.

During his visit to the country, he cited that the campaign aims to support harmed people and provide them with essential needs.

Moreover, O’Brien praised the improvement in the security and services provided in Aden and said that the city is full of life now unlike its situation following its liberation directly.

For his part, President Hadi urged the UN agencies as well as other humanitarian organizations to pay field visits to review facilities provided by the government, in all seaports and outlets, through which aid arrive in Yemen.

O’Brien will also visit Taiz, which is witnessing a deteriorating humanitarian situation due to the siege imposed on it by forces of the Houthis and ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The UN official hailed efforts put by the legislative government to serve its people based on its responsibility towards them, stressing the UN’s full support for these efforts.
