BEIRUT (AP) – A U.N. envoy says that Israel, Lebanon and Hezbollah still want to keep the truce that ended a devastating 2006 war despite recent incidents that have raised tensions.

Michael Williams, the U.N. special coordinator for Lebanon, told The Associated Press in an interview Friday that he’s confident that the U.N. Security Council would renew the mandate of peacekeepers due to expire next month.

Williams has just returned from a visit to Israel. Explosions this month at a suspected Hezbollah depot in southern Lebanon, violations of a disputed area by civilians, and a stone throwing mob attacking peacekeepers in the south have sharply escalated tensions in the volatile region.
