TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran’s supreme leader told visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Monday that the main problem facing Iraq was the presence of U.S. and other foreign forces there, Iranian state radio reported.

“The most important problem of Iraq is the presence of foreign forces in that country,” Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s top authority, was quoted as saying during his meeting with Maliki in Tehran.

He pledged Iran’s support for Iraq: “Helping Iraq and (its) government is our religious duty,” Khamenei said.
