ANKARA, Turkey (AP) – Turkey’s military says 25 Kurdish rebels were killed in cross-border air strikes on rebel positions in northern Iraq last week.

The military says Friday intelligence reports suggest that several Kurdish rebels were also injured when Turkish warplanes raided the Qandil mountains in northern Iraq on Oct. 17.

Qandil mountain is where the Kurdish rebel leadership is believed to be in hiding, and where the rebels are said to train.

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, has been fighting for self-rule in Turkey’s southeast since 1984.

Turkey has launched several aerial attacks and one major ground operation against rebel bases across the border with Iraq this year.
