Baghdad- Three U.S. soldiers were killed in action in clashes in Baghdad and a city south of the capital, the military said Friday.

Two of the victims died Thursday afternoon in Baghdad after their patrol was struck by a roadside bomb, a statement said. The soldiers, who were not identified, were part of Task Force Baghdad.

Another soldier was shot dead in the city of Iskandariyah in central Iraq, The Associated Press statement said.

It said the death occurred on Wednesday during combat operations near the city located 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Baghdad. The soldier was assigned to the 155th Brigade Combat Team, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
