LONDON, (AP) – Britain’s Foreign Office says an investigation should be carried out into claims Syrian protesters in the U.K. are being intimidated by the country’s embassy.

Demonstrators allege the embassy has had photographs taken of those involved in rallies in the U.K. against President Bashar Assad, and that those images have been shown to their families in Syria in an attempt to harass them.

Middle East minister Alistair Burt said he was aware of the claims and that a police inquiry must take place.

He told BBC television that action would be taken against any diplomat proven to have been involved.

Jihad Makdissi, a spokesman for Syria’s embassy in London, said on Wednesday that the country’s mission denied the allegations.
