KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, AP – A suicide bomber set off explosives strapped to his body in a central Afghan town Thursday during a visit by the U.S. ambassador, and a number of Afghan civilians were believed to be killed or wounded, a local official said.
The attack happened about a quarter mile from the governor’s house in Tirin Kot town, Uruzgan province, said Abdullah Khan, the governor’s spokesman. The ambassador and other U.S. officials were inside the building at the time and were unhurt, he said.
Khan said at least 10 people were believed killed or wounded.
U.S. Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor declined to comment.
