KHARTOUM, Sudan, (AP) – Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir has vowed in an interview that his government will never deal with or appear before the International Criminal Court.

An ICC prosecutor has indicted al-Bashir of charges of genocide in Darfur and has asked the court for an arrest warrant. It may be weeks before a ruling on the request is made.

Al-Bashir says in an interview published Thursday in the Sudanese al-Ayyam daily that his government will “never deal” with the ICC and that he has no intention of ever appearing before it.

He says his government will challenge the indictment’s legality before the U.N. Security Council and the International Court of Justice.

The U.N. says up to 300,000 people were killed and 2.7 million displaced in the Darfur conflict.
