Sudan reiterated its demand for the US to remove its name from the list of state sponsors of terrorism whilst saying that the era of envoys must come to an end in Sudan, and that relations with the United States should be diplomatic like relations with all other nations.

In a statement to the Sudanese Media Centre (SMC), the Minister of State for the Sudanese foreign ministry Obaidullah Mohamed Obaidullah said that Sudan does not yet know why the United States is delaying its response to the issues presented, especially as it vowed to remove Sudan from the list if there was a transformation and evolution of political affairs. Despite Sudan meeting its obligations, sanctions have been extended further.

Obaidullah called on America to reconsider the sanctions imposed on Sudan which he said are considered a violation in accordance with international standards. He also noted that Sudan declared its readiness to cooperate with the United States a long time ago and therefore there should be concessions with regards to the sanctions. Obaidullah added that “Sudan has nothing more to offer than what it committed to, and what it has carried out as a result of these commitments”.

The United States listed Sudan on the list of state sponsors of terrorism in 1993 and has imposed economic sanctions on it since 1997.
