MADRID, Spain (AP) – A Spanish judge has charged a Syrian-born man convicted of leading an al-Qaeda cell with financing terrorism from behind bars.

Judge Ismael Moreno says Imad Yarkas worked with two other suspects to finance terror cells. One of those two is also in jail.

Yarkas was convicted of leading a terrorist cell in Spain in a trial that ended in 2005. He is serving a 12-year jail term. He was acquitted on appeal of a charge of conspiracy in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks.

Moreno says Yarkas has financed terror cells from behind bars through transactions with two other Syrian-born men. They are Mohamed Ghaleb Kalaje Zouaydi and Bassam Dalati. The Associated Press obtained a copy of Moreno’s indictment Monday.
