MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) – Somalia’s prime minister has vowed to continue his job, just one day after the president announced he was firing him.

It was the latest political turmoil in a country struggling with a deadly insurgency and rampant piracy off the coast.

The prime minister, Nur Hassan Hussein, survived a no-confidence vote in parliament Monday with 143 out of 170 ministers voting to keep him. Twenty voted against him and seven abstained.

It was not clear what will become of the Somalia’s weak and fractured administration, which has been sidelined by Islamic militants and is veering toward collapse.

Hussein has said the president lacked the authority to fire him without parliament’s approval.
