Cairo- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi arrived in New York on Sunday to attend the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he will deliver Egypt’s statement focusing on his country’s efforts to combat terrorism.

The Egyptian Presidential office said that Sisi is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday on the sidelines of the UN meetings.

In his address before the General Assembly, Sisi will present Egypt’s stance towards regional and international developments, the means to establish peace and stability in the world, and efforts to fight terrorism in all its forms.

A large number of Egyptian expats gathered in front of Sisi’s residence in New York, upon his arrival on Sunday, carrying Egyptian flags and signs of welcome and support.

The Egyptian president’s spokesperson, Ambassador Alaa Youssef, said Sisi would attend a Security Council summit on the reform of UN peacekeeping forces.

He will also deliver Egypt’s statement before the summit, which will highlight the country’s role as the seventh largest contributor to peacekeeping operations around the world.

Egypt has contributed to 37 UN missions, with over 30,000 peacekeepers deployed in 24 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.

The Egyptian president will also hold sideline meetings with top US business and financial executives and members of the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) to discuss Egypt’s economic reform program and the country’s investment opportunities.

During Sisi’s meeting with Trump, talks will focus on the means to promote bilateral relations and reinforce the fight against terrorism.

Sisi will also hold intensive meetings with a number of heads of states and governments to discuss ways of bolstering mutual cooperation and to exchange views on regional and international developments.
