BEIRUT, Lebanon, (AP) – A security official says a shootout between Lebanese soldiers and a group of gunmen in the northern port city of Tripoli has left one of the gunmen dead and two wounded.

The official says the shooting occurred early Friday in the mostly Sunni Bab el-Tabaneh neighborhood. A woman who was passing by was also wounded.

The official says the soldiers were pursuing the gunmen who were in a car. He says the gunmen opened fire first and soldiers shot back. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to talk to the media.

Soldiers later fanned out in the area and arrested 10 people.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the shooting was related to Islamic militants active in Tripoli. Two bus bombings recently killed 23 people there.
