Taiz- Seven coup militiamen were killed Thursday in an ambush set up by Popular Resistance units in Al Bayda province, central Yemen.

Resistance units ambushed a militia convoy, resulting in the death of the Iran-aligned Houthi militants, the state-owned news agency Saba cited local sources.

Sources also pointed out that coup militants blocked Al Bayda residents in Himmat Sarar from attending to their farms, indiscriminately bombing the village.

Yemeni army forces based west of Taiz continued their advance towards the Khaled Bin al Walid Camp, linked to the 35th Armored Brigade base, clearing remaining militia pockets in the north of the coastal city of Mokha.

The pro-government forces’ push is backed by Saudi-led Arab coalition air power.

Brigadier General Adnan Al Hammadi commander of the 35th Armored Brigade base said that liberating Khaled Bin al Walid Camp is of great military significance to Yemen army forces. Freeing the area from militia presence will secure the entire coastal city of Mokha and the western side of Taiz.

More so, the military advance will set up battle conditions backing a push towards the coastal city of Hodeida.

The liberation of Khaled Bin al Walid Camp “will help secure international navigation routes, such as Bab el Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea,” at a time coup militias had overrun the 35th Armored Brigade base and assigned a militia commander to the camp, Hammadi told Asharq Al-Awsat.

Meanwhile, bombardment in Thamar, southeast of Sana’a, carried on, registering medium and heavy weapons activity which resulted in deaths and injuries to both sides of the conflict.

Popular Resistance units apprehended 10 coup militiamen late Thursday during Utmah District clashes in Thamar. Clashes are ongoing with reported casualties, resistance sources said.
