Saudi Security Forces Arrest Four Terror Suspects | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Jeddah, Asharq Al-Awsat- Saudi security forces arrested four individuals at dawn on Saturday suspected of having ties with the terrorists whose names are on the list of 36 wanted men suspected of involvement in acts of terrorism. Maj Gen Mansur al-Turki, official spokesman for the Saudi Interior Ministry, confirmed the arrest of the four persons in the city of Al-Utayf, 100 kilometers north of Al-Taif, and that they are currently being interrogated.

A security source told Asharq al-Awsat that there were reasons to suspect the four individuals who were arrested as they were traveling in a Hilux Toyota pick-up on the Al-Taif-Riyadh highway en route to the Riyadh area. He added that the security forces chased the suspects who, tried to flee. The security forces managed to stop and arrest them at a security checkpoint near the city of Al-Utayf.

According to sources close to the scene of the arrest, the four detainees were found in the possession of leaflets, but had no weapons or explosives. These sources said that the content of the leaflets has not yet been disclosed. The arrest of the four men comes five days after the clashes that occurred in Al-Dammam in east Saudi Arabia between security forces and wanted men in which all of the wanted men were killed after three days of clashes.
