Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat- The Saudi medial teen under the leadership of Dr Abdullah al-Rabee’a, the executive director general of the health affairs at the National Guard, have succeeded in separating the Moroccan conjoined twins

The operation took place on Saturday evening at the Riyadh-based King Abdulaziz National Guard Medical City.

Addressing a press conference Dr al-Rabee’a thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Sultan.

He also congratulated the parents of the twins and the Moroccan ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

‘The success of the operation constitutes a message from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the entire world that it is the Kingdom of humanity,’

‘Thanks to Almighty Allah, we have earlier conducted ten similar operations, and this will be the 11th of its kind’, he said .

He pointed out that other Saudi hospitals like King Faisal Specialist Hospital and the National Guard Hospital in Jeddah as well as a number of students from Abha-based King Khalid Hospital had contributed to the success of the operation.

Moreover, Dr al-Rabee’a expressed appreciation for the comprehensive coverage for the operation by the Saudi media, and said ‘I would like to thanks minister of culture and information Iyad Emin Madani in this respect’.

The medical team, which participated in the operation, included 44 physicians, nurses and technicians.
