Jeddah,Asharq Al-Awsat—Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz held a meeting with visiting Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in Jeddah on Sunday.

The meeting discussed recent events in the Arab, Islamic, and international arenas, most prominently the recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the efforts made to end the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

The two leaders also discussed the latest developments in Libya, Iraq and Syria, as well as the issue of Arab national security and the fight against terrorism.

King Abdullah and President Sisi also discussed the prospects of cooperation between the two countries and ways to improve and strengthen them in all fields to serve the interests of the two countries and their people.

At the meeting, King Abdullah presented the Egyptian president with the King Abdulaziz Medal, and honor presented to senior world leaders.

For his part, President Sisi expressed his pleasure at his visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and his meeting with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. He also expressed appreciation for the continuous support by King Abdullah for Egypt and its people.

The Egyptian president also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosque for the honor he bestowed upon him by presenting him with the King Abdulaziz Medal.

Saudi–Egyptian relations have enjoyed a revival since the ouster of former president Mohamed Mursi in 2013. The Kingdom supported the Egyptian government’s road map for political transition after Mursi’s removal from office in 2013, and the visit by King Abdullah to Cairo on June 20 was the first visit by an Arab leader to Cairo following the election of Sisi as president.
