Jeddah, Asharq Al-Awsat- Contradicting earlier reports, the Saudi ministry of interior announced on yesterday that the body found in a villa in the Mubarakiya district in Dammam was that of Ahamd bin Abdul Rahman al Suwaylimi and not of his brother, Mohammad, whose name appears on a list of the Kingdom’s most wanted Islamic militants.

Security forces and suspected militants had clashed for 3 days early last week in a villa in the eastern city with all extremists killed during the fighting.

A ministry official said DNA analysis of the bodies recovered from under the rubble showed that Ahmad al Suwailimi, previously believed to be in Iraq, had died after setting off his explosives belt.

Their father had indicated his son Ahmad had joined the insurgency in Iraq after receiving a letter from him saying, “Peace be upon you, greetings from your son Ahmad who has left for Iraq”.

The families of Nayef al Shamri, a suspected terrorist, and Ahmad al Suwaylimi had received phone calls from outside the Kingdom confirming their sons were in Iraq, thereby indicating militants in the two countries were coordinating their efforts.

Ahmad was not previously known to be involved in terrorist activities inside Saudi Arabia. The discovery of his charred corpse in Dammam reveals a network of militants increasingly staffed by men who had intended on fighting a global jihad (holy war).
