Saudi Interior Minister Reaffirms Kingdom”s Major Role in Combating Terrorism | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Baha, Saudi Arabia, Asharq Al-Awsat- Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, the Interior Minister, has highlighted the significant role of Saudi Arabia in combating terrorism, and said the Kingdom was one of the pioneering countries in fighting terrorism.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday after opening the new building of the Governorate of Baha region, Prince Naif noted that the Kingdom had earlier organized an international conference on means of combating terrorism, and had called for international cooperation in fighting terrorism.

Prince Naif underscored the importance of the security campaigns earlier launched by the Kingdom”s Interior Ministry.

He pointed out that some Saudi youngsters are now residing in Iraq, and said ”we have been following this matter with the Iraqi authorities and the countries whose forces are stationed in Iraq such as the United States and Britain. &#34We have asked these parties to extradite Saudis they may capture.&#34

&#34We take into account the possibility of what had earlier happened in Afghanistan”, he said and added ”there are restrictions on the Saudis who may try to leave for Iraq, but some Saudis arrive in Iraq via other Arab and Muslim countries

&#34We have reviewed this issue with all countries concerned with the Iraqi problem and with countries neighboring Iraq like Iran, Turkey, Syria and Jordan.&#34

Meanwhile, Prince Naif said the Interior Ministry, in cooperation with all concerned authorities, either governmental or non-governmental authorities, has been taking the required security precautionary measures so as to avoid any form of terror acts at hospitals, hotels and other public utilities.

&#34All are requested to cooperate in this respect so as to enhance the pillars of security and safety in the country,&#34 he added.

Later, Prince Naif left Baha Saturday night.

He was seen off at Baha”s regional airport by Prince Mohammed bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Baha region, and a number of senior officials.
