Jeddah, Asharq Al-Awsat – The Ministerial Committee of the Arab League ended its two-day deliberations here on Sunday evening.

Following the Committee”s final session, Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister, said the Arab League”s Secretary General will visit Iraq as soon as possible to review with the concerned parties there the possibility of realizing national reconciliation.

”In the light of this visit a fixed Arab strategy will be formulated and then it will be submitted to the Council of the Arab League soon”, he said.

Replying to questions raised by the media, Prince Saud said the visit of the Arab League”s Secretary General to Iraq would take place soon.

On the Arab strategy as regards the national reconciliation in Iraq, Prince Saud said when the national reconciliation is completed, then it will be possible to set up a fixed strategy.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari stated the Arab Ministerial Committee on Iraq”s meeting was both positive and frank.

Iraq had presented a paper on the points on which it needs Arab support and stressed continued violence in his state is a threat to the entire region and not just Iraq.

The official also recalled the issue of foreign fighters that compromise stability and impede progress and stressed this phenomenon must not be allowed to take firm foot in Iraq.

The issue of the statements by Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan Jabr Sulagh against Saudi Arabia also came up and Zebari expressed his regret and described the statements &#34unfortunate and unwarranted.&#34 He stressed the statements do not reflect the view of the ministry or the Iraqi government.

Iraq has esteem and respect for the Saudi government and people, Zebari said noting he discussed Iraq issues with the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud bin Faisal in frank and direct manner.

Iraqi Interior Minister Sulagh yesterday in Jordan attacked Saudi Arabia accusing it of interfering in Iraqi domestic affairs in the first precedent of its kind.
