Jizan, Asharq Al-Awsat- Asharq Al-Awsat has learnt that the Kingdom’s Coast Guards have been provided with new speed boats equipped with the latest cutting-edge maritime technology. Sources informed Asharq Al-Awsat that these boats will help in monitoring any infiltration attempts via the Saudi Arabian territorial waters. The source also revealed that coordination has been ongoing between the Saudi Arabian and Yemeni authorities with regards to patrolling the borders and monitoring infiltration operations between the two countries.

The Saudi naval forces also initiated its operations using exploratory technology, surveillance cameras, and sophisticated military technology. According to the source, the procedures being followed by the Saudi Arabian navy has made it extremely difficult for any infiltrator to enter Saudi territory via its territorial waters. The source also stressed that after the Saudi Royal Navy destroyed enemy boats attempting to smuggle Katyushua rockets into Yemen [December 2009], the authorities have not seen any attempted infiltration, whether this is by infiltrations from Yemen, or those coming from southern Africa [via sea].

The source also revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the Saudi ships are equipped with modern surveillance, jamming, and radar technology, enabling them to deal with any potential threats, whether these are aerial or surface targets, or search and destroy missions.

Furthermore, sources on the frontline told Asharq Al-Awsat that Saudi forces are in complete control of the land border, and that currently all is quiet in the border region, following the hit-and-run operations that were previously being undertaken by the infiltrators.

Saudi soldiers stationed in the southern border region have received spiritual support from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz in the form of pocket-size copies of the holy Quran. Jizan Governor Prince Muhammad Bin Nasser Bin Abdulaziz presented these to the Director of the Jizan-branch of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Muhammad Madkhali, and Armed Forces Director of Religious Affairs, Brigadier General Muhammad al-Sadan yesterday.

Prince Muhammad Bin Nasser said that the holy Quran is the best present for the armed forces. He also called on God to help soldiers to understand the Quran and follow its lesions, provisions and guidance. The Jizan Governor praised the steadfastness and courage of the soldiers in their protection of their religion, their King, and their country.
