Saudi Border Guards Seize Antitank Rockets, Weapons, Explosives | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat- Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry has seized during the past three months four antitank rockets and large quantities of ammunitions and explosives in addition to other materials that included weapons and “RPGs” at all Saudi Arabia’s borders with neighboring countries according to the Border Guards’ Directorate General.

The report issued by the directorate yesterday reported that the Border Guards seized around 26 banned materials during the third quarter of this year in various border areas and these included 46 hand grenades, 900 dynamite sticks, 900 detonation wires, four antitank rockets, an “RPG” shell and detonator, half a kilo of high explosives, 199 weapons, 134,772 bullets of various calibers, and 11 ammunition belts.

The report disclosed that the Saudi Border Guards seized about 823.5 drug tablets, 1,459.6 kg of hashish, 1,175,078.84 kg of Qat, 1,319 alcohol bottles, 50 liters of wine, 65 beer cans, nine vehicles, and 7,721 heads of cattle. The report recorded 117 cases of hunting violations, 14 cases of the violation of the ports instructions, six cases of sea pollution, 12 cases of maritime collision, and the seizure of 298,859 kg of foodstuff. It added that the seizures during the same period from the Iraqi side was 236 infiltrators, six smugglers, 98.668 kg of hashish, and 57 alcohol bottles.

It is recalled that the Saudi Border Guards said last year that they seized 163 weapons, six “RPG” shells, six detonators, 53 pistols, 14,090 detonation wires, 67 kg of explosives, 14,040 dynamite sticks, 11 grenades, four explosive materials, and 513,667 ammunition of various calibers (bullets).

Most of the materials seized are discovered by the use of police dogs in addition to x-ray equipment to uncover materials in goods or passengers’ luggage.
