Dammam, Asharq Al-Awsat- Saudi authorities announced yesterday, that a number of attempted drug smuggling operations were foiled in three parts of the kingdom.

Major Ibrahim Abu Halil, the spokesman for the anti-drugs department, said that the security authorities seized 1450 kilograms (kg) of heroin in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as well as 110566.8 kg of hashish, and 236,030 narcotic tablets. He added that 2369484 narcotic tablets were seized in Jeddah and 126300 kg of hashish was seized in Jizan.

Abu Halil added that all those involved in these cases were arrested and transferred to the relevant departments. He highlighted the department’s determination in countering and detaining these gangs.

The Saudi authorities had announced that they had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 500kg of hashish in to Jeddah in cooperation with Pakistani security authorities and in coordination with the Saudi Customs Authority. Furthermore, 48387 kg of hashish and 15,3545 narcotic tablets were seized in another operation, as well as 4kg of hashish and 31 narcotic tablets in Mecca.
