Asharq Al-Awsat, Dammam, Saudi Arabia- Saudi Aramco and Fila international conducted a joint exercise to cleanup a potential oil spill, on Wednesday, off the coast of Oman, in collaboration with the Sultanate’s environmental authorities. This latest training exercise aims at ensuring that the companies are ready to react in case of an emergency.

The training included a simulation of a crash between two oil carriers potentially resulting in the spillage of 40 thousand barrels in the sea, 15 miles off the coast of Muscat.

Saudi Aramco’s specialist ship, Madyn was involved in the exercise. It left the Saudi port of Ras Tannura, in Saudi Arabia, with laden with equipment including, suction pipes and chemical dispersion equipment.

The training also involved calling for additional equipment and manpower from outside the area, using planes donated by Saudi Aramco and Oman’s government for the day.

The simulation is part of a series of training exercises that Saudi Aramco is conducting to combat oil spills worldwide, as part of its strategy to protect the environment.
