Riyadh- The Special Criminal Court in Riyadh issued on Sunday a preliminary sentence of 12 years in prison for a Syrian resident on charges of planning a suicide attack targeting the Saudi security forces participating in the Hajj season.

The convict admitted his support for the terrorist organization and for his adoption of the Takfiri approach, which is contrary to the Qur’an and the Sunnis.

The court found him guilty of posting several tweets asking his social media followers to pray for him to carry out the suicide attack successfully.

He was also convicted of several other charges, including pledging allegiance to ISIS’ leadership, embracing deviant ideology, disobeying rulers, spreading deviant ideologies through social media and posting tweets offensive to rulers and the security personnel.

The court ruled to seize his flash drive memories containing ISIS logos and other offensive materials, and banned him from using Twitter and other social networking sites.

The Syrian man will be deported after serving his jail term.

In last year’s Hajj season, security forces were equipped with the most developed weapons for quick response. They carried out intensive training under different climatic conditions.

This year, security agencies are working to serve the pilgrims – from the first day of their arrival to Saudi Arabia right until they perform the Hajj and return to their countries safely – through a unified work plan aimed at achieving the desired objectives in serving the pilgrims.
