Riyadh – Sudanese Minister of Information Dr. Ahmed Bilal Osman said that Saudi Arabia’s role in lifting sanctions imposed on his country sets the ground for a firm relation between the two countries.

Following the meeting with Saudi Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Awwad al-Awwad, Osman expressed his gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for all the efforts they exerted to lift sanctions imposed on his country.

He stressed that “this role played by the Saudi leadership sets the ground for a firm bilateral relation, and we hope that the media can serve as the expressing voice in all what matters for both countries.”

During the meeting, they reviewed boosting media cooperation and discussed ways of enhancing communication and supporting its aspects through means of modern technology of media dissemination between the two countries as well as means of investing the media outlets in transferring media content to serve the Arab and Islamic issues and address current challenges.

For his part, Dr. Awwad stressed that the talks between the two sides were constructive and fruitful as they discussed means of enhancing media relations between the two countries and developing their fields to serve common issues.

The talks focused on consolidating media bilateral relations and supporting aspects of communication through means of modern technology for media publishing.

“The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the Crown Prince were keen to strengthen relations with Sudan and to achieve the welfare and prosperity of the Sudanese people,” the Minister added.

“Upon directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the efforts exerted by the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, have been crowned with success to lifting economic sanctions on Sudan,” Awwad confirmed.

Notably, Sudan has been subject to economic and commercial sanctions since 1997, imposed by different US administrations throughout this period.

Khartoum says that these sanctions have led to severe political and economic losses that have amounted up to $500 billion, yet the US administrations were renewing these sanctions year after the other without taking into consideration all the compromises made by Sudan.

However, what Saudi Arabia has done as an effective regional power and all the pressure it has put on the US administration during the past few years led to lifting these sanctions.
